Moscow flights & airports
Posted: Wed March 25, 2009 07:00 PM UTC
I'm researching a possible trip to Moscow later in the year.

Cheapest flights seem to be with Transaero (via London). I know of the airline from years back, but don't know how it rates these days. Anyone have any recent experience?

Also, some airlines use Domedevo airport, and others use Sheremetyevo. Does one have any advantages over the other?

This website has some comments about Transaero. Maybe they will help you with a decision.

This is a website about Moscow airports (there are 3). Domodedovo is newer and more pleasant.

I have never been to Moscow... I just write about airports. :-)

Hi!
I try to use only Domodedovo airport. It's more fast (passport control and customs), modern and has convenient means of transport: train from airport building to Paveletskiy Moscow railways station = Paveletckay metro station (City center) takes only 40 min and cost is 200 Rubles (~ 6 USD) http://www.domodedovo.ru/en/
Good luck
Oleg

agree, Domodedovo airport is better, with more useful traffic to the city by public transport as well as with taxi (free roads more or less in comparision with Sheremet'evo)
Transaero is one of the best in Russia in 2008 as well as Aeroflot and S7 Airlines (quantity of passengers)

Transaero was very cheap indeed. About 160 pounds from London in November. But it is about 280 pounds now. They normally operate with BMI, and BMI may be even bit cheaper. Domodedovo is a bit closer to the center, but it really depends where you go. Sheremetievo has train connection nowdays, this doesn't matter in the long run. The same lines in the passport control, no matter are you local or foreigner.
