Alaska Mount Redoubt Eruption!!
Posted: Wed March 25, 2009 01:26 PM UTC
Hello to all the Alaskans!

I was just reading about the eruption of Mt Redoubt. It seems to be quite active with some floods and ash being spewed into the air!

What's the situation like right now? Is it dangerous? We are coming to Alaska in May for our honeymoon and we're getting worried!

We will be going through Ketchikan,Juneau, Skagway, Glacier bay, Anchorage (& Whittier), Denali & McKinley. Do we need to be worried? Or should these areas be ok? I hope we won't be seeing everywhere covered in ash instead of lovely snow and greenery!! :(

My aunt was up there watching it from her cabin. There is little to fear. :) There is a great deal of ash - but Alaska is such a big state that you have little to fear. Alaska is more than twice the size of Texas.

It hasn't amounted to much yet. The Susitna Valley has been the main fallout area as far as I know and the ash depth is nothing to fear for summer. The volcano remains active and my fingers are crossed the the wind stays out of the east. Your trip should be fine in May but then who knows whether Redoubt will still be brewing then?
