New Orleans 1870 Banana Courtyard, Lamothe House and area
Posted: Tue March 24, 2009 08:57 PM UTC
We are going to NO early November. Thinking of staying at Banana Courtyard or Lamothe House. We are concerned about the area around it (Esplanade and N. Rampart). Is it a safe area to walk around....especially in the evening? For those who know both places, what would be your choice. Thanks for any info in advance.

Why not check out both places on www.tripadvisor.com to see what other people thought of the two hotels. That's a fairly reliable site.

Already did that first. There is conflicting reports to safety in the area. Banana Courtyard is also near St. Louis 1, which has a really bad rep.

Personally, I wouldn't risk it but we all have different levels of comfort. Hopefully, someone will come along who knows New Orleans better than I do. I was there quite a few years ago and stayed outside the French Quarter and near the Convention Center.

Your question about walking in the area is a good one. I would NOT suggest walking at night (even dusk) to / from these locations. If you want to go out at night, get a taxi to and from. Not that expensive to keep yourselves safe! Other than that, I would say that staying in a B&B is a wonderful way to experience your time in NOLA. (Haven't been to either of these to give you any insite).
