Ben Gurion to Haifa Posted: Tue March 24, 2009 08:30 AM UTC
Hello!,
I just wanted to know if there is train service on SATURDAYS from Ben Gurion to haifa available?, i checked the website it said there is but not until the evening at 2100 hours. Then I found something saying that there is train service starting at 3am til midnight but it didnt say the days that is in effect.
Does anyone know?, I assume Saturday is a holiday...what would be the best way from the airport to Haifa?
Thanks!

Saterday is still Shabbat, till sunset.
So on Saterday there are reduced or in some places non existant travel services.
On my trip ti Israel in Octomber 2008, we had to be at the airport for 3.00am on Sunday morning, so we decided to take bus from Nathanya to the Airport Hotel on Saterday afternoon. We got on bus no:522 to Tel Aviv, and from there we took minibus (€10pp) to Ben Gurion airport. BTW the bus 522 goes from Haifa via Nathaya to this big junction jus outside Tel Aviv, and then to the City itself.
Also ask UnaS for help, Una has real wealth of info. Great lady too.She will help you some more.

Thanks Valentina - just wish I was as knowledgeable as you say :)
This question is comparatively easy to answer...
There is no public transportation on Saturday - the Sabbath for us.
There are group taxis called sherut (sher-oot). As you leave the Arrivals Hall look for the sign for taxis. Don't take a private taxi - it will cost almost as much as the flight! Just keep saying "sherut - Haifa" and people will point the way.
These are large 10 passenger vehicles. You may have to wait a while till one fills up, they don't leave partially filled.
Welcome and have fun!

The above posters are right in saying there is no public transportation in Israel on Saturday - but Haifa is the only city in Israel where buses DO run on Saturday. To get from the airport to Haifa, however, your best bet is the shared taxi van that stands right outside the airport, as described by Una. You can read a tip about this on my Lod page (where the airport is really located, although everyone says Tel Aviv). The tip is about travel to Jerusalem, but is equally applicable for Haifa.

Just a note about Sheruits. Technically they do not leave until they are full. However, if you are short a person or two and those already waiting want to pay a little more and share the cost of the missing passengers--the drivers will be fine with it. They, however--don't organize the collection--a passenger has too. So, if you are really tired and enough people are willing you CAN get the sheruit to leave with 8 or 9 people ( for an additional charge)
