Transportation from the airport

I will be staying at the Europäischer Hof Hotel which they say is close to the main train station in Munich. If I am flying into the airport on Lufthansa what is the best train routing to get to the hotel? Or would you recommend another way into the city?

There is an S-bahn train stop a short walk from the airport terminal. The train to the main train station leaves about every 30 minutes. Buy your ticket from the electronic vendor (costs about 8 euros). You cannot buy it on board.

Hi 3 years ago we went to the taxi stand after international arrival and wondered why there were so many taxis and no people waiting. Taxi fare 55 euros.

2 days later we returned to the airport by train , 16 euros combined ticket ( wife & myself). Definetaly take the train.

Two web sites that should help you: (1) Munich Public Transit System: www.mvv-muenchen.de, which has a route planner on site, and (2) www.munich-airport.de/en/consumer/index.jsp, which also has a public transit link. Gary

Both S-Bahn lines serving Munich Airport go to Munich Hbf (main train station).
Single ticket is EUR 9,20.
Day ticket is EUR 10,00.
Mini group (2-5 persons) day ticket is EUR 18,00.

These tickets cover all local public transport in Munich (regional trains, S-Bahn, U-Bahn (metro), trams and buses).
The day tickets are valid from the time of validation (stamping) till 6am next day.

If you will be travelling mainly within Munich, and visiting Munich sites, you might wish to look for information on the web for the "Munich City Tour Card". That should save you a bit of money. If you will be taking day trips within Bavaria, you can visit the German Rail site link for the "Bavarian Laender Ticket": (www.bahn.de/international/view/en/prices/germany/laender_tickets.shtml). You might also visit their link for the "Happy Weekend Ticket" that, again, should be a good travel value for you. Gary
