Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Rio de Janeiro Rio de Janeiro area - Marica
Posted: Fri March 20, 2009 07:45 PM UTC
We have the possible opportunity to travel (from the U.S.) to Rio - and stay in a home that an acquaintance has there. The home is in a town called Marica.

Is anyone familiar with that town and the area around Marica? Is it north or South of Rio? Is it near the ocean, near a beach?

I'm interested in any other information that may be available about Marica.

Thank you.

It's on the coast just north of Rio and Niteroi, before Saquarema. There's a long thin strip of beach backed by several lakes. You can probably take the local bus into Rio to see the sights there.

hi. Marica is a small city, about 70 km, north Rio, easy to reach.....It's not exactly one of the best ones....the city itself has not much to offer....the beach has lot of kilometers of sand, but it's not exactly attractive(sorry my english)...it has a sea(waves) very dangerous, and, because of that, not good for swimming...., any way it's near others beaches like saquarema, araruama, ponta negra...etc, but, in fact, i would not suggest this place for my friends, but it depends your interest in stay there....any other doubts, just e-mail or vt=forum....hope helped you...by

Marica is a small town on the coast, some 70 km north of Rio. The beach is some quilometers far from the city centre, and I would recomend it for someone who wants to be in a nice, quiet place. Foreign tourists rarely care for a visit to Marica, but Rio dwellers themselves have beach houses there. In the city centre of Marica there are regular buses and vans to downtown Rio.
