I'll be in Melbourne next weekend for 4 nights for the F1 staying at Somerset on Elizabeth. What tram do I catch to Albert Park. I'll be in 4 different stands during the event so it will probably be a different gate each time. And what street does it travel along near Elizabeth St. I'm pretty useless with Melbourne Streets. Thanks in advance.

You need to catch either the No 96 or No 112 tram depending which gate you want to enter. Catch the No 96 for gates 1 & 2. Catch the No 112 for gates 3 & 4. Both trams leave the city going down Spencer st which is four blocks from your hotel straight down Lonsdale St.
Your hotel is on the corner of Elizabeth & Lonsdale Streets.Check the website http://www.grandprix.com.au/ to see where the grandstands are in relation to the gates. Hope you have a great time.

The trams to/from Albert Park are free for F1 ticket holders. The main tram for the race leaves beside the main straight and travels into Spencer Street, where I'd suggest you get off at Bourke Street and catch any tram heading east and get off at Elizabeth Street and then walk one block north to hotel.

From St Kilda Road the trams go into Swanston Street and I'd get off close to Bourke St and walk one block west to Elizabeth Street from there.

Don't forget the ear plugs - LOL
