Cambodia entry Cambodia with a bus: what about Visa?
Posted: Wed March 18, 2009 06:58 PM UTC
Hi
I'm planning to fly into Bankgok and keep moving with a bus/train into Cambodia and Laos, maybe into Burma and Bangladesh:

I know some people entering Cambodi obtain visas at the airport of entry: but what if you enter with a bus or train?
What happens with the visa?

They will keep you out?
How can I apply?

Also do you know re the same visa issue entering Burma and Bangladesh?

Pls advice

Thnk you

Depending on your nationality, you should be able to get a Cambodian visa at the border. Most buses will collect everyone's passport and visa fee and take care of it for you once at the border. Make sure you do your research and you know what the visa fee is. I entered Cambodia, and the visa fee for Americans was $20. My driver tried charging me $25, saying the price just increased the day before. Don't let yourself get scammed.

Hi JJ,

Thank you;
I carry an Italian passport but I'm a US permanent resident;

Your reply was very helpful

I guess this same "bus-rule" may apply for entering Burma and Laos

Don't know about Burma but Laos is just as easy and hassle free as Cambodia.

Burma is a different story altogether. You can get visa on arrival at the airport in Yangon and possibly Mandalay. To enter by land just for the day, there is a day visa, at the point of entry from Thailand. If you wish to go to the interior I think you should have the visa stamped in your passport.
You cannot enter Bangladesh from Burma. ( nor India for that matter)
Cambodia and Laos have made it easy for travellers to come to visit the country, but the Govt of Burma is rather equivocal about tourists coming to their country and that is why just a fraction of tourists who visit Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia visit Burma as well.. If you are interested ingoing to Burma, i would get a visa before hand, which can be done in Thailand or other asian capitals.

i agree with claus. when i crossed the border at aranya prathet-poipet i saw that those who applied for visa there were processed without delay. most of them transacted their visa without benefit of go between.
