Copenhagen need help picking a restaurant
Posted: Wed March 18, 2009 04:21 AM UTC
I need help selecting a restaurant for dinner in Copenhagen. It is for a Sunday night and I am looking for a Danish food altho Danish fusion with continental or French/Danish would be also be ok. I'd like a restaurant that is either nonsmoking or has a nonsmoking section.I will be staying in Nyhaven. My daughter is an exchange student in Copenhagen( but no help in selecting a restaurant) and we would like to take out her host family when we visit as a thank you. I'm looking for good food but not Michelin star level. I'd spend up to $60 per person . when looking at menus does the price include taxes?
what is a customary tip ? we arrive March 28 and will want reservations for March 29. thanks . Joe Graboyes

Zelest (sp?)is a great place with funky atmoshere and great food. It's on an angled side street just as you come into Nyhaven. It's an old carriage shop and hard to identify even if you are looking at the door. Right hand side comeing from Nyhavn.

I was Copenhagen in June 2008. Had one of the best French meals of my life at Les Trois Cochons (The 3 Pigs), 1619 Vaernedamsvej, along Vesterbrogade, maybe 10 blocks west of the Central train station and Tivoli. 70-70-15-88.; cofoco.dk. The price, for 2 people, totaled about 125 USD. That was before the Recession, so the prices should be lower today! You both must order the same entree. Having said that, they bring you 3 appetizers, then the 2 delicious entrees, then 3 desserts! Coffee was not included, but i didn't complain, paying an extra 5USD for a pot of hearty coffee. Many locals were eating there, so I believe that your daughter's host family will not feel that you're taking them to a "Hard ROck Cafe" tourist joint. Not only was the food sumptuous, but there was too much of it.

You couldn't ask for a better location to be based than Nyhavn for restaurants. Try SARS Kommanderen at Nyhavyn 15 (menu at http://sars.dk) - Danish with a French accent. Or Nyhavn 37 which does excellent fish. The whole harbourside is a street of restaurants and so you could just have a wander and look at the menus displayed and take your pick.

Yes the prices are tax inclusive and also include service and so any further tip is not required, although it is customary to round up the bill.

Enjoy CPH!

As a quick addittion to my previous reply - Nyhavn can be a bit "touristy" during the summer but when you'll be there it reverts back to being a locals haunt.

Footstool is spreading the word.

The Three Piglets is outstanding in that pricerange. I have been at the restaurant and other CoFoCo restaurants a number of times and never been disapointed.

At the cofoco.dk homepage you can make reservations.

... And menues does include the 25 vat. Tips are included and waiters don't depend on them. However if you are happy rounding some 5 or 10 % up is getting more and more ussual.
