Nürnberg Help Plan After-work hours on a 4-day visit
Posted: Tue March 17, 2009 01:22 PM UTC
I would be in Nuremberg from 24.05.09 to the evening of 27.05.09 for an official visit. Would I be able to see castles during evening hours? Where can I find local guides? and what would be their charges? What are the options of having vegetarian food in Nuremberg?
Kindly help.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, my friend is living close to N so I have some few tips on pages. Not too many though - some restaurants. Don't be afraid because of vege food. Most restaurants have some options cause veggies are pretty normal also in Germany. Maybe you should not take the most traditional restaurants then.

Here's a link for city guides:

Also Erlangen and Bamberg are cute cities close by and worth for a short visit. Bamberg is more cute from the city centre (Unesco World Heritage) and Erlangen is a lively students city. Many young people prefer Erlangen for the evenings than N. I did not believe this either at first...

Have a nice stay,
Chris.

Nürnberg's castle can only be visited on guided tours which take about 1.5 hours. As in May the castle is open until 6pm you would need to be there by 4.30pm or you miss out.

Just for the case they have special tours at later times, I would contact them:

Reg. vegetarian food:
In the meantime you will get vegetarian meals in most restaurants. The safest bet always are Indian and Italian restaurants. But as said, nearly all restaurants are prepared to cater for vegetarians. The result, however, is not always delightful, and the Southern cuisine is heavy on meat.

Re. vegetarian food: you should really avoid traditional german restaurants then, because they barely have anything vegetarian on the menue. A lot of them have one dish for alibi reasons, but that might be something like deep fried cheese or whatever they have readymade in their fridge. As already stated italian or indian restaurants are always a good bet, and especially italian restaurants are easy to find everywhere.

Good luck!! I have been through the same kind of trip! ;-)

Even if not able to visit the inside of the building, you will still be able to walk through the castle in the evening. So, yes, you will be able to *see* it.

As for the Vegie option, hum, yes, as it has already been mentioned, absolutely avoid traditional German restaurant. You can look to some of my pics if you want to be completely disgusted! ;-)) Deep fried cheese is good though! ;-)
There is a Mexican restaurant in the historical center (Enchilada) which I haven't had the chance to check yet but this could be a good bet...
