Auckland Auckland for 2 days with a 4 month old!??
Posted: Mon March 16, 2009 01:05 PM UTC
Hello all!

My wife and I along with our 4 month old son are heading to Auckland and the Auckland region for a bit next month (April).

We will be staying with family on Waiheke Island, though plan to spend a couple of days in Auckland city. Wondering if anyone may have some ideas of fun/interesting things to do with a 4 month old? Kelly Tarlton's looks interesting...is it pram/stroller accessable, or should we take the carrier?

We also plan on doing some shopping to take advantage of our dollar gain...any good places?...

Thanks!

As Kelly Tarlton has wheelchair access there should not be a problem to use a stroller. However, you might want to take the carrier with you for the little train trip through the Penguin Encounter.

I restrain from giving more ideas as I have no idea how much a 4 month old baby understands. I always have the impression people take their babies to all places the parents do enjoy... I do not know if a baby thinks: "Oh, how great, we are on a boat watching dolphins - which never appear on the surface..."

My personal preference for shopping is Newmarket, can be easily reached by the Link bus from Downtown AKL.

Hi there - I have just been to NZ with our three month old, and we were in Auckland for a night as part of that trip. We strolled along the Viaduct (harbour) for an afternoon pretty happily. You could also do a harbour cruise if that was of interest. There are also some nice beaches around Auckland, although it is getting a bit cold for swimming in April. I think Kelly Tarlton's would be fine (I have been there previously without a bub).

I'm not much of a shopper, so can't help much there. Parnell has some boutique shops that are quaint. And I think Ponsonby has a good shopping strip as well.

Not sure if you've been to Waiheke before...? if not, you'll love it! A beautiful island.

Have a great trip.
