Angkor Wat which hotel?
Posted: Sun March 15, 2009 02:26 PM UTC
hi guys,

we're going to siem reap in may.difficulty choosing hotel as confused by the large choice and conflicting reviews.our budget is about $100 per night.

pavillion d'orient has great reviews on trip advisor but can't find much info on it outside this website:

1.has anyone been there?recommended or not?

2.we're vegetarians and want a hotel where the manager/staff/chef would accomodate us.

3.is it fairly ok to get into the main eating areas in town by tuk tuk from this hotel?

any other recommendations welcome.

we were also considering tara angkor and victoria angkor resort and spa.

thanks in advance!

Any 100 dollar hotel will be real 4 star accomodations in Cambodia. You can get great hotels for $50, as well. I don't know much about vegetarian issues.

The Tuk Tuks will get you into town through the road dust for a dollar. If I were to go to Siem Reap again, I would try to stay as close to the market, food street as possible to avoid using these nasty little machines. I also highly dislike having to bargain my ride, and not being able to go where I want in town as often as I want without paying a dollar each time. It is just nice to be able to go walking in the market for an hour and back to the hotel for a bathroom or to cool down, then go back for another hour without traveling 2 km every time.

A good option is Somadevi on Sivartha Boulevard. It should be around $80 3.5 star hotel if you book on wotif.com. They included a meal for two, welocme drinks, airport pick up with my 3 day stay a year ago. Location is good as it is easy to walk to the markets and the cool pubs and restaurants in Siem Reap. Not sure about the vegetarian meals so I suggest you email them on:

info@somadeviangkor.com

The web site is www.somadeviangkor.com

I have stayed at six hotels in Siem Reap and so far that is the best I have stayed at.

SiemReap is all - touristics....and everywhere is shops, cafes n' lodgings.
Can consider FCC, Aspara, etc..
I stayed at Sofitel, and it's very resort style, but not central. But it's only a 5 min tuk tuk to central. Liked it coz it's quiet. Didn't like it coz it's next to a hospital.

Generally, it's very safe in siem reap even at 10pm.

Best to get a nice hotel with a nice pool, as you'll want to come back during noon time for lunch and chill out at the pool and an air con room.

Your pass to Angkor Park, allows you multiple entries within a day.
Hire a vehicle to take you. Go in the morning, leave the park before noon as it's too hot and stuffy, and then at about 3pm go to the park again till sunset.

2-3 days are more than enough to explore the whole park.
I did see a number of foreigers cycling....I won't do it though..too tedious and hot. The park is huge.

Hi

When we visited Siem Reap in 2005 we've stayed at the Angkor Star Hotel.
It's a nice 4-star hotel. It takes about 15 minutes by car to reach the temples of Angkor.

My first time in Siem Reap I stayed at Angkor Star. Its ok but my recommendation, if you are happy to pay a little more, is Somadevi. Its much better in these respects:

Bigger Pool
Better and Bigger rooms
Somadevi Buffet Breakfast was superior to Angkor Star

Location is roughly the same but Somadevi is closer to the markets by around 100 meter so no big diff.

Day Inn was a highlight for me. Quite new, very good rooms and staff and one of the best swimming pools you will find in the area. In a quiet location too but only a few minutes from the centre by tuk tuk.

Hi I'm an aussie living in Siem Reap for the forseeable future. My next door neighbour runs tours, accommodation, transport you name it.

I have a list of 4 or 5 star hotels that he gets contract prices on.

Angkor Star usually charges $70+ for a basic room but he can get it for around $40 per night.

Contact me at djdanny_001@hotmail.com to see how I can help you. I have a whole list of contract prices of hotels in the area.
