we will be staying round the old arbat area in moscow and nevsky prospect in st petes ( i realise these are pretty big areas)

are there grocery stores centrally located?
i believe that the dostoevsky hotel in st petes for eg is housed on top of a shopping centre and i believe there is food sold there

we just want the usual- bread cheese milk fruit - if it is ok quality

anyone else actually shop in supermarkets

is it still the old system of lining up, ordering the items then going to pay the cashier before coming back to collect your purchases? or is that just in little towns>?

bread, cheese, milk and fruit are possible in the little shops too. there are not much centrally located supermarkets cause of big prices for rent. In Moscow in old arbat I can't remember smth... just remembered that 7th Continent is in the Ohotny Ryad mall, near of Kremlin only... :-)

even in little towns of Russia I didn't see as you named it "old system" last time. you pay on the cash and get your shopping

didnt think about the high rents theyd have to pay
so i guess we wont be in for buying cheap food
