Yes, it's doable but it will be a long day and you will arrive there only to turn round and come back. We've driven from Glasgow to there in 4-3/4 hours and that was pushing it. You go through some absolutely stunning scenery and lots of interesting places. While we've driven from Glasgow to there in 4-3/4 hours, we've also taken over 7 on the same trip because of traffic (accidents) and on one occasion, turned round and came home because the road was blocked by an accident and the police said it would take another 10 hours to clear. There is also every likliehood that you will be "stuck" behind slow moving vehicles. If you look at the route on a map you will think that it's not far or an easy drive; however, distances are deceptive and in addition, the time taken to drive will be far longer than anticipated. I would advise that you either take more time to go to that part of the world or else leave it for another trip.
