Lake Tiberias Quiet camping in Lake Tiberias
Posted: Fri March 13, 2009 10:42 AM UTC
Hi,
I am planning on visiting from the UK in May and think I will be in the Tiberias region for 2 nights (Thurs/Fri). Are there any quiet campsites by the lake? Will Thursday and Friday be busy? Are the campsites expensive? I can't find much information about camping in israel. If it is too expensive, are there any nice cheap hostels or B&Bs right be the lake? I would like to be able to swim and relax there.

Thanks very much
Rhona

Can't find? Everything is online, sometimes in 5 languages ;-)
Anyhow, check this site list for camping by the lake:
http://www.ekinneret.co.il/site/eng/search.asp?pa_cat=2

And this site for Youth Hostels:
http://www.iyha.org.il/eng/

Kinneret is the lake name.

Whereever you will camp, if by chance you plan to spend the last weekend on May (this year) camping, you might want to think again: it is the Jewish holiday of "Shavu'ot" that usually marks the opening of the summer season, and this year it forms a "long weekend". Not the best time to enjoy lakeside canping.

Shalom, Shalom...yes it is the holidays and most often the campgrounds are slightly crowded, but that is a part of the culture here in Israel where the "personal space" is much smaller than in the west. It often happens that you strike up friendships with your fellow campers instead of being isolated.
The camp sites on the east side of the lake are usually the best, with the Ginnosar camp site on the northwest being the best I am told, with actual grass to pitch your tent on and set spaces for the tents. The other campgrounds tend to be a bit more haphazard, you sort of set your tent wherever you like. You can see some of the sites on my pages.
B&B's can be found at almost all the Kibbutz settlements around the lake but I think only Ein Gev on the southeast corner has bungalows near the water. This is the link to their site:

Enjoy.
