Hello All -While visiting Cairo, We want to take the sleeping train to Luxor -First off I am wondering how are we going to get around once we will arrive at 5am and we won't have to be back on the train untill 7pm -Can someone suggest an itinerary for us ...We want to go to the Valley of the Kings will we have time for the other sites and what would be the top thing to do - Thank You in advance-Meg

There will be enough taxi's in front of the station that will take you around for the entire day.

Visit the Valley of Kings in the morning, followed by Deir el Bahari (Hatshepsut) and possibly the Valley of Nobles or Deir el Medina (Workers Village).

During the afternoon you can visit Karnak Tempel and if you have time left visit Luxor Tempel.

Give the taxi driver an extra bonus for NOT taking you to any shops (alabaster, karpets, perfume, papyrus etc.). You will not have the time for it but he will like to get you there because he will earn some extra money for any tourist delivered to the shop and also a percentage of what ever you buy.
Also refuse to go to any family member of the driver; it is a hoax!

Be prepared to pay extra!

Personally I think 1 day in Luxor is to short!

I am not sure if you are a good sleeper, but be prepared that you will not get very much sleep in the train. Even though the Abela sleeper train is the best option!

Expect 50 to 75 LE above the taxi price you bargained. Don't tip in USD! 1 USD is 5 LE. Keeping in mind that the average monthly income in Egypt for a police man is 250 LE. A teacher will earn 350 LE a month. Average 20 workingdays in a month will mean a police man will earn 10,25 LE a day. That is 2 USD. (You wouldn't tip half a days earnings when you are in a restaurant at home!!)

But they expect something extra from tourists, so I think the 50 to 75 LE extra should be enough.
