Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Cologne I fancy taking in a football match while i stay in cologne...
Posted: Wed March 11, 2009 10:01 PM UTC
Hi.

I'm staying in Cologne next week and have noticed Borussia Monchengladbach are at home on the Friday night (returning hom Saturday afternoon so this is my only option). Is this near enough to get to and from Cologne to the ground? Would I be welcome (english football fan) and any idea how much it would be?
Thanks in advance.

It's about 1 1/2 to 2 hours by train, see http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?S=Cologne&Z=Am%20Borussiapark,%20M%F6nchengladbach for timetables. I think it'd be best to buy a "SchönerTagTicket Nordrhein-Westfalen" (Nice-day-ticket North Rhine-Westphalia) for 23.50 €, it's valid the whole day throughout the state.

Well, as long as you don't cheer for the wrong team :)

See http://www.borussia.de/en/match_tickets,118040,0.html for ticket prices.

Hello,

I am a supporter of Borussia Mönchengladbach and I can congratulate you to have chosen the correct team. Usually matches between Mönchengladbach and Cologne are sold out. I am not sure about Saturdays matchm though. There might be some spare tickets.

However, if you get a ticket you must know that the ticket also includes a free train ride in the so called VRR region, which doesn't include Cologne but at least Düsseldorf which is located somewhere between Mönchengladbach and Cologne.

Oh, and you will be more than welcome as an English person in teh stadium. We have a sort of friendship with FC Liverpool.

I hope this helps

.....ah, okay, sorry. I thought he is speaking about this weeks match, which however takes place in Cologne, but nevertheless is a homematch for Borussia *cheekygrin*

Yes, he will probably have good chances to get tickets for the Friday match against Bochum.

As it is a kind of game bad against worse there are some tickets left. You can check and book online on Borussia's homepage:

http://www.borussia-ticketing.de/ticketing/default.asp?PageNo=DEFAULT

I would however contact the club, as normally they mail tickets, and this would be too late for you. Normally every good club has a counter where they deposit prepaid tickets.

Just a thought:
If you book the ticket now they could already post it to your address in Cologne.

I have just checked Borussia's website and there are no tickets available so I hope you have been lucky enough to get one. My friend and I went to the Borussia v Hoffenheim game a couple of weeks ago and the atmosphere was terrific. We were right at the back in the Nordkurve seating area and the view was outstanding. Unfortunately, as an earlier texter suggested your match ticket does not give you free transport from Koln. Your'e best bet is to get to Dusseldorf as cheaply as possible and then use the match ticket for onward travel to Munchengladbach. Incidentally, if you have enough time in Dusseldorf visit Zum Schlussel on Bolkerstrasse as it is an absolutely superb pub.

When I hoover the mouse over the blocks on the tribune I get the information that there are still tickets available in all sections of the stadium.
