First time in Gold Coast Posted: Tue March 10, 2009 03:49 PM UTC
Hi,
we are travelling to Gold Coast in April with two young children aged 6 and 9. We were planning to take the kids to Movie World, Fantasy World, Wet n Wild world and sea world. I wanted to know if all these theme parks are really worth going to with children of this age? My younger one is only 100cm tall and I know she won't be able to ride in many rides, but then again, we want them to see the best of Gold Coast. But i really would appreciate hearing from people who have been there, is it worth the 4 days to visit all the theme parks?
Is there anything else to do in GC besides beaches and theme parks cos we have an extra day with nothing much to do. Pls advice :-)

Welcome to VT.
Firstly i have no idea where you from and that helps in giving advice.
2. Are you staying in the middle of school holidays as line up times will be huge.
3. There is more to the gold coast then themeparks and what is it you really want to do.
4. Withing each themepark there is a section to cater for the younger and older kids. it depends on height yes but each park can accommodate your kids ages.
5. Check out the infinity maze, its great and as a family you will all enjoy. totally separate from themeparks
6. try a duck tour through surfers
It totally depends on where you from and what you want to see?
Cheers Heather

One park that you should visit with children of that age, is the Currumbin Wildlife sanctuary. Here, they can interact with the animals, and there are shows as well. The Lorikeets love you feeding them. Website is www.cws.org.au and www.queenslandholidays.com.au Scenery around is lovely, especially the bottom part of the GC, Coolangatta. If you have a car or hire one, a trip to the hinterland is worth going. Waterfalls, Natural Arch, or at O'Reillys there is a tree top walk in the rainforest, a bit like a swingbridge, you can feed the wild parrots, and there are bush turkeys everywhere. See under Lamington National Park, click on my name, then go to the travel pages, and click on the headings you want to look at. The parks are worth visiting with children, they will have a great time.

Hi,
I should have said that we are from Malaysia :-)
We will be in GC from the 5th April onwards for 6 nights. We are thinking of visiting all 4 theme parks but just wanted to confirm whether it woould be the right thing. Will probably drop dead after the 4th day :-)
thanks all.
If you guys can think of something a little relaxing that does not involve animals (as we are going to the Brisbane zoo and penguin thingy in Melbourne and a farm), please do let me know. thanks!

Just go walking and check out the sights. Theres plenty of buses running, and lots of nice parks. If you want, you could get the train to Brisbane, and get off at Southbank Parklands. Very nice area with city views, and next to it is the Museum.

Did you buy a 3 park pass (Movie W, Seaworld and W&W) because it will be cheaper. If you buy tickets at the parks it'll cost around $60A each for adults and about $30 for kids from memory. Wet and Wild is similar to Sunway in KL.
You could go shopping at outlet centres. We have a lot of relatives from KL who say that the clothes here are just a little bit more expensive but the quality is better.

Definately visit Seaworld to see the Dolphin show and Currumbin Bird Sanctuary for the colourful birds at feeding time early morning or evening.
For a relaxing day out, I'd travel south past Kingscliff and Cabaritta to the lagoon at Hastings Point. The kids will love it! ...especially if you have a couple of blow up matrasses to ride the tide out. Then I'd visit Tropical Fruit World for lunch and a fun afternoon - http://www.tropicalfruitworld.com.au/
And perhaps get fresh fish & chips at Chinderah on the way back -
