San Diego Budget Family Accommodation in Heart of San Diego
Posted: Tue March 10, 2009 03:11 PM UTC
I want to visit San Diego with my family of 4 adults in June 2009.

Will really appreciate guidance on best value / budget accomodations meeting the following needs :

1. Price under US $ 100
2. Location : Heart of City. Lively place outside hotel
3. Easy availability of public transport ( 5-10 minutes walk from hotel)
4. Prefereabaly near any stop of old town trolley
5. Do not care about the view

Will be thankful for guiding us to stay at a perecft location.

We like Old Town there are good motels there for good values like the courtyard by Marriot - Try priceline or Hotwire you can get rooms in Nearby Mission Valley for less than 100 per night no problem and it's on the trolly line...And make Sure you go to the Old Town Cafe for the best Mexican Breakfast around- YUM !

I've stayed at the Old Town twice, it's very close to Old Town and very close to a trolley stop. I paid under $100 both times I stayed there, they do have larger rooms for families and include a pretty decent breakfast. I have a write up of it on my San Diego page, there are quite a few reviews on Trip Advisor as well

PS If you want all four adults in the same room, do not use Priceline, they will only guarantee space for 2 people. On Hotwire you can specify 4 people and get a room for 4 people but you don't know what hotel you get until you have paid for the room. www.betterbidding.com is a good resource for Hotwire, www.biddingfortravel.com is a good resource for Priceline.

There aren't many hotels that fall into this. San Diego is very popular for tourists and, thus, any hotels in the tourist areas (Downtown/Gaslamp, particularly) are going to be fairly expensive. You could stay a bit out of the city (what I usually do), but the public transit is not necessarily as good.
Old Town Inn would be my first suggestion, too. It's nearly always under $100/night, safe, clean and you can walk to the Old Town restaurants and the bars and restaurants in Little Italy from there.
You could also look at the Hotel Occidental. There's also a Motel 6 in Downtown San Diego that fits your criteria.
Don't expect a lot from these places though. You don't get much near Downtown San Diego for under $100.

Thanks for the suggestion. What if I increase the budget to say $150 per night. Would like to stay in down town.

Any advice ?
