Cancún Need help with Cancun Vacation.
Posted: Tue March 10, 2009 01:38 AM UTC
Hello everyone,

Me and my girlfriend (25 and 22) are going to Cancun for a week or two this towards the end of April. We really want to enjoy the place but we're on a tight budget. So can anyone help us with some questions:

1. do you know of any place to rent for a couple on a weekly basis, preferably with a pool and beach or near beach access? doesn't need to be posh or anything, would be great if there's a/c and a kitchen and a shower. How much do you think would it cost?

2. can we rent a scooter so we can roam around and explore the sights freely? how much?

3. what places do we need to see at Cancun or at it's adjacent places?

4. any other tips for first timers?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Hello, First I want to say, I have not been there yet. We are scheduled to go in May with our senior class. With all the drug war problems, we are thinking about changing. All the information I am reading says that Cancun is not affected.

I wanted to share this with you, the company we are traveling with advised us not to rent the scooters there. They say that they can accuse you of breaking them and you are obligated to purchase the scooter. Again, I have not experienced this first hand, but this was advised from our travel company that travels there twice a year. Hope this helps!

I was in Cancun last week and stayed at the Sina Suites for two nights.
http://www.cancunsinasuites.com.mx/sinasuites.html

The web site list a junior Suite for 120 USD but they said we could have it for 1000 Mexican Pesos. But we were able to get for 800 Mexican Pesos. About $53 USD a night with the present exchange rate. It suite is large with a living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedrrom with a nice view of the bay. It also has pool. It is in a quite area of the Cancun's Hotel Zone but is easy walk to the grocery store and bus stop. The web site has a toll free number form the US and an toll free number within Mexico

We had a car for the 10 days and drove inland, then to the area south of Cancun. Their was not problems with drug wars. I think that is mostly along the US/Mexico border. The people inland were extremely friendly.

You may want to consider to explor additional areas like south of Cancun.

Thanks for the tips! Very helpful..too bad I'm going to have to cancel the trip. Could you believe I was denied a transit visa through the US?! I'm not even going to step out of the airport! And the tickets I've got are non refundable..so frustrating...oh well...

Is there a reason you are looking to rent something? Have you considered doing just an All-Inclusive? All meals and drinks are included, and your air, hotel and airport transfers are also included.

My boyfriend and I (also 22 and 24 and first timers:) are heading down to Riviera Maya just south of Cancun at the end of April as well and we got an amazing All-Inclusive deal on www.deals2cancun.com . We are staying 5 nights at the Riu Playacar and flying out of Wisconsin for only $825 each. We then also get about a $50 cash back rebate when we get back as part of the web sites promotion. I'd say that's a pretty good deal, but now looking there's even 7 nights for around that price out there now too on the site. Beaches and pools are in abundance. I also talked with a travel specialist there and we're planning on going down to Tulum zip-lining one day. The way it sounds Xcaret Park is a must do if you're looking for something to explore the sites, etc.

Anyway, might not have been what you're looking for, but best of luck!
