I am planning to visit Versailles on 8 May 09 and I realised that it is a public holiday. Just wondering whether it will be closed or still open?

I just tried to order a ticket online for admission using the official site at: http://www.chateauversailles.fr/en/index.php and it allowed me to start buying for Friday 8th May. So looks to me that you will be lucky ! ( I think Mondays are bad )

Just had a look at the official site and going by that , you are in luck it's not closed the 8th unless there is an official ceremony. www.chateauversailles.fr.

Just pray that there is also no strike that day. I went very out of my way to visit Versailles in 2005 and was in a ticket line that simply did not move. They finally announced that the workers had called a strike that day. The people beside me had gone through the expense of taking the train over from London and had spent the night in order to hit Versailles early. At least the gardens were open and they were quite beautiful.
