Bali Art Supplies - to bring or to buy there
Posted: Sat March 7, 2009 01:12 PM UTC
I will be in Bali from 3/14 to 3/24
I need some advise..I have booked a villa by the beach and would like to spend most of my time painting there...I am not sure if I should bring my art supplies with me (such as brushes, canvas, paper, boards and especially oil, acrylics, and water color, primer etc...
Can anyone tell me where I should go to shop for these supplies in Bali and are they cheaper or a lot more expensive than Seattle?
If the prices are not too high I would rather not carry the supplies with me ...
Any assistance most appreciated.

Hi Ed. I haven't been to Bali so can't comment on availibility of supplies there.

When you pack for your flight, remember the rules on gels and liquids. Oil and acrylic paint tubes can be considered gels and may be confiscated so put them in your checked baggage. I do watercolors and always take two small pallets with pan paints in them. That way I can keep them with me and not worry about my paints getting lost with my luggage (that seems to regularly be lost). Keep your brushes with you because you don't want them manhandled by agents rifling your checked bags.

For such a short trip, you may want to bring only watercolors and make watercolor sketches to do in oils or acrylics when you get home. Take photos to supplement the painted sketches. That way you don't have to worry about canvas, primer and "gels" in your carryon.

Enjoy your trip. You should have some beautiful paintings from it. Why not post some of them here on VT to share with us?! 8^)

Hi Ed,
you can buy your art supplies in Bali, since that island is a residence of several famous painters.
You can find those art supplies in Denpasar and Ubud.
have a nice trip!
