I am trying to get from Nimes airport to Gordes(preferably) or Avignon and do not speak french so cannot find any information. Is there a direct train or bus connection from the airport or do I have to go into Nimes?

You will find a shuttle bus waiting outside arrivals at the airport (which is tiny and has no railway station). The bus will take you to Nimes, and drop you off at the railway station. You pay the driver, and tell him/her where you want to get off (he/she will understand more than enough English).

From there it is an easy train ride to Avignon. Ticket machines have English language options, and trains are frequent. You can find train times in English on:

http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml (which carries info for almost all European trains)

or you can look at www.sncf.com (the French railway site) which has English pages and will give you times, details and fares. No need to book your ticket in advance.

There is no station in Gordes. I think you might be better to take the train from Nimes to Cavaillon, from where you can take a bus to Gordes. There are only a few buses per day, and I am still looking for a timetable for you.

Cavaillon is nearer to the village than Avignon itself.
