Driving from UK in August Posted: Thu March 5, 2009 02:14 PM UTC
Hi all - we drove to Malta in Aug 08 from UK. We travelled Dover - Dunkerque, through Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy stopping along the way. We then caught a ferry from Napoli (Naples) overnight to Palermo (Sicily) and then drove across Sicily to Pozzallo and caught the Virtu Ferries catarmaran to Valletta (Malta). There were 3 families and we all towed our Ford Escort race cars to race at Hal-Far Raceway. We all won trophies in our classes entered and stayed for 7 days before journeying back home again. It was a fantastic adventure and we saw some beautiful scenery along the way!
This year we are making the trip again but only 2 of the families (the 3rd family left their race car there and he flies over to race during the year - coming over again next week-end 13-15 March). We stayed in Bugibba in the Falcon Court apartments which were clean and VERY cheap for mid August (although basic as we were on a budget).
This year we will be taking the new ferry service from Genoa all the way down to Valletta (39 hours) which will make our journey a little more relaxing (it will also be 1600 miles less driving and €1000 less). And we have located a house to rent for 10 days in Mqabba. We will be racing again on 21/22/23 August at Hal-Far and our holiday is based around the racing so we are not looking for accommodation overlooking a beautiful bay.
We know that Mqabba is very close to the airport but can anyone else tell me anything about the village??
Oh, and I forgot to say, we absolutely love your country and we spend as many week-ends there as we can. Usually staying in Bugibba or St Julians areas as we have many Maltese racing friends in Zabbar and surrounding areas.
Thanks for your replies :o)
