Isle of Skye Unsure about January travel
Posted: Wed March 4, 2009 06:25 PM UTC
Hi everyone,
I'm really keen on organising a little weekend trip to Skye for my partner's birthday, but it's in early-mid Jan. I'm not bothered at all about bad weather while we're there, but I only have a small car so I'm concerned about what the driving conditions might be like getting there and back at that time of year. Can anyone put my mind at rest, or should I arrange the trip for another time? I'm thinking of using the bridge and heading to Portree.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

You haven't said where you will be travelling from, but I'm sure you realise that no-one can really predict the UK weather.

As long as you allow plenty of extra time for the journey (just in case), and your car is sorted out I don't see that you will have major problems. This year's January weather was rather exceptional.

Obviously you'll look at the BBC weather forecast and

beforehand. The AA site will give you route, timings and warn you of any roadworks/problems.

The roads on Isle of Skye are in excellent condition and should not present a problem to a vehicle and driver who are in working condition. I imagine the colors and shadows could be magnificent in stormy weather but I hope it is clear for you.

Crikey...if you coped with Leics roads in the recent snow you have no need to worry about coping in Skye next Jan! :-))
