Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Melbourne any 3 day passes for trams/trains
Posted: Tue March 3, 2009 09:33 PM UTC
Hi, am going to Melb for 3 days of looking around, I haven,t selected accommodation yet but am considering somewhere on Queens Road. I,m not at all familiar with the public transport system, I,m always with family and just follow along blindly! Is there such a thing as a 3 day pass for trams and trains? Even just trams would be good as I will probably stick to the city area. Or any other type of day ticket that you think would be good, the first day I just want to browse in the shops.

G"day Margaret
sadly we dont have 3 days ticket :-(
you can only get daily or weekly.
your best option is to buy 5 daily or 10 times 2 hours ticket it cost the same price.they cost 29.40 full fare or 14.70 Concession.
if you validated 2 hours ticket 2 times thats ll last you till 3 am next day.
if you stay around the city there is a free city tram and bus taken you around.
as well there is avery cheap ticket call a city saver.
enjoy your stay and i hope it ll be a nice weather for you in Melbourne.
Cheers

the city saver is only for a limited area in the inner city

there is a free tram which circles the city - it is a different colour, sort of brown/maroon

Although the 3 hotels along Queens Road are quite good, they have nothing close to them for "supplies." That area is mainly office buildings and quite "dead" at night. There are also about 5 other hotels that are on StKilda Road and likewise "dead area." I'd suggest you stay in either city or in many ways better off in St Kilda. From St Kilda there are 2 tram lines that take you into city, however as you've said "as I will probably stick to the city area" then why not stay in the city?

The free tram is only in the city and is a good way of getting to see much of the city. There's also a free tourist bus service that includes the Art Centre and goes to Lygon Street Carlton. Here's a link http://www.onlymelbourne.com.au/melbourne_details.php?id=6706
