Inverness makes a good base. There are many tips here so you could search on Inverness as a location and read some of the tips we have posted. I know I have several.

Inverness is a popular tourist destination and base, and you will find plenty of people there in August.

It is not a huge city, but there are shops, restaurants, pubs and evening activities.

There is lovely countryside nearby, accessible by local bus and train, and you will find plenty of day trips on offer. Glencoe (scene of a famous battle and a most atmospheric place) is only a few miles away, and there are dolphin-seeking boat trips along the Moray Firth. There is also Loch Ness, of course!

As well as the VT pages, look at the official tourist info sites here:

Hi!

I just returned from Inverness a few days ago (t'was cold, but still beautiful and fun as ever :-)

Apologies for the long answer in advance, but I hope all this info helps! It's a list I've compiled but haven't made into a tip, yet...

In July & August there are various events in Inverness & surrounding area.
Every Tuesday (July & August): Pipe Band Performances in High Street at 8.00pm
Every Tuesday: Traditional Jazz, Nico's Bar, Ness Bank (in the Glen Mhor Hotel) between 9-11pm

Daily: Live music sessions at the award-winning Ceilidh Bar called *Hootananny* in Church Street (Tel: 01463 233651). http://www.hootananny.co.uk/

>>> Why not take a boat trip on the famous Loch Ness and shake flippers with Nessie?
Either check this website: http://www.jacobite.co.uk/
Or with these organisers: http://www.cruiselochness.com/

>>> Take a boat trip on the Moray Firth to see wild Bottlenose Dolphins & Harbour Porpoise!
