greetings !
looking forward to the trip to the island with four nights stay in May09. thinking of splitting the stay between ubud and nusa dua ? is this a good idea? any recommended accomodation with a budget around USD50-USD60 a night ?

Hello, locations for your holiday depend on what you are wanting to get out of it.

Ubud is considered to be the cultural and artistic heart of Bali (although there are other places just as good). It is a very nice place to experience some of the quieter things in life.

Nusa Dua is a specially built resort area full of 5 star hotels (there are some within your budget but not so many as most are over your budget.)Some people consider Nusa Dua to be too clinical (although that is a matter of opinion) It is quite away from the lively night spots, but has a good beach and is close to watersport activities. There isn't the bargain shopping to be had (like you get in Kuta)

So it all depends on what you want to do and what you want to get out of your trip.

Hello,
Tabanan area is very nice and still untouched from too much tourism. But to be honest for your short stay maybe better to stay in Ubud.

Ubud, Ubud, Ubud. Lots of things to do and see. Great restaurants (Cinta Grill and Inn on Monkey Forrest Road (great Mojitos and Ribs) Cafe des Artistes - steaks are the best and across the street from Cafe des Artistes is Roda Internet, the best equipment, the best price and staff. Museums - Arma, Blanco and Neka are must to see. A walk thru the rice fields (go behind Cafe Lotus - which by the way is another great restaurant - the view is the best in Ubud. Shops too many to mention, also a huge Market place - you cannot go wrong with Ubud. Also Temples that should be visited. John

Definitely Ubud. But am not so sure about Sanur. It tends to get a little boring with little to do after dark. Besides, I'd reco that you enjoy a little more excitement after Ubud. Perhaps stay in Seminyak. My opinion only, enjoy!!!
