Sharm El Sheikh Travel Forum

Hi Guys,

I'm pretty new to all of this and would like some advice, hints or tips.

I'lm going to be travelling to Sharm very shortly and will be travelling alone, IS IT SAFE ??

I've never travelled solo before and i'm just wanting a week of R&R if i'm honest, i've done Cairo, Sphinx, Pyramids etc before so just want to chill and don't plan on leaving my hotel. Do i have anything to worry about ?

Any advice would be greatly received.

If you have been to Egypt & don't plan to leave your hotel surely all you have to worry about is the quality of the hotel?

You do have a point, but some people just can't help themselves scaring you with alsorts of this that & the other stories obv then my mind goes into overdrive !!

if you've already been in Cairo you can go to Sharm. Of course a nursey in same cases could be in danger so you never be sure 100%.
I heard there are also flat for rent in sharm and people save money, try to google. if you're going there baclpacking, I suggest a visit to Dahab.

Egypt is one of the safest countries on earth, uncluding for women travelling alone. Of course there is always the risk of terrorist threats but that can happen anywhere, and it can be mitigated by avoiding sticking with large crowds of western tourists (clearly impossible in Sharm).

Sharm is a big, artificial resort full of electric palm trees and tourist groups. it is not really Egypt, it's more like a tasteless, mini Las Vegas

I agree with Catw. Egypt is pretty safe however, if you are a woman you may want to try and dress as modestly as possible even if you are staying in a resort hotel. The staff is not allowed to but occasionally you my be flirted with by staff, most of it is harmless though.

not cuz i am Egyptian but beleive me it is really safe !! many of my friends came from many countries and all agreed that it is safe than many places they visited before.
sharm is nice but u still can do a lot of things not so far of sharm !! try Saint catherine, mouses mountain and a visit to dahab won't be bad at all :)

I have been to Sharm twice on my own and have felt very safe. Yes, you do get chatted up a lot, but not in an intimidating way and men do take no for an answer!

I will be there on my own from 19th March this year as my boyfriend does not like diving. If you are in Sharm around that time, maybe we could meet up - the evenings are a bit boring when you are on your own!

I too am travelling to Sharm alone. I am going to the Hilton Sharks Bay in two weeks time. I suppose you just have to be sensible the same way you would travelling alone anywhere else. Hope you have a great holiday.

I am a bit worried leaving europe for 1st time but just wanted somewhere different, so i not sure what to expect, only advice i learnt is to avoid shops and dont take too much money with you where is everyone else stopping? is anyone or anyone been to the tropicano roseta hotel before flying with thomson's

Got back on Monday. Stayed in my resort but absolutely no problems whatsoever. The staff were fantastic. So any women thinking of going to Sharm alone........go for it!
