Going to Montreal from Europe ( airlines / accomodation / etc) Posted: Fri February 27, 2009 09:00 AM UTC
Does anyone know an airline in Europe that goes to Montreal for an okay price?
The only ones I have found so far are extremly expensive.
Can anyone recommend a clean budget hotel? Or warn me from one that they found completely useless?
I would also like to go to NYC for a few days. What is the cheapest way to get there from Montreal? Bus? Train?
Cheers!

Air France has plenty of flights to Montreal from CDG and when you take a connecting flights are usually cheaper than going from CDG.. in fact when i priced a two week journey in may 2009 it was around 500 euros from goteborg to montreal and back which i think is very cheap.. another thing.. using air france website you can book goteborg to montreal and coming back from new york to goteborg so that you dont have to go back to montreal.. if you wish to go back to montreal, there are many airlines serving the route.. and you can try continental form montreal to new york or canadian..among others..

Since you plan on going to New York, try looking at flights from europe to N.Y. first, then go to Montreal. I did not look it up, but in the past it has been cheaper.

I can't go to New York first because I am going to a wedding in Montreal, so it won't fit the dates I am travelling.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I found a flight from Gothenburg to Montreal and from NYC back to Gothenburg ( Airfrance) for about 90 euro less than what I had found earlier. Still expensive, but 90 euro cheaper ;)

the best search engine for overseas flights from scandinavia tends to be this one:
www.momondo.com

continental was the cheapest out of the dozen or so I searched but there are plenty others around so you will either have to put the leg work in and search all the airlines or just take a price thats reasonalble and you feel happy to pay

What is continental? Is that an airline or a site?
I have been searching, both through search engines and on airlines' sites. I am just not very good on that part of the world because most of my travelling is in Europe and the Middle east. I thought that it would be a good idea to get tips from people on which airlines are ( usually) cheaper who have actually gone there.

continental is an airline.
only fly them if they are the cheapest as they are one of the worst airlines in the world in my opinion.

I am sorry the above poster has had bad experiences with Continental Airlines of the USA.. My experiences are exactly the opposite and in fact while in the USA, I use them exclusively and fair bit of my international travel as well ( USA to Japan, USA to India).. They couldnt be nice enough, they are always going that extra mile for you and when i write to them about something, i get immediate replies from the people responsible. Having travelled in almost all airlines flying in and out of USA, which are american, I vote for Continental Airlines as one of the best..not only in the USA but elsewhere as well..My next flight on continental is coming this saturday!
Continental in USA and Air France in Europe.. viola..

Since the demise of Zoom I think that you'll have to try Canadian Affair, which does have the drawback of going from the hellhole known as Gatwick.

I am sorry to be a bit late on your posting.
There were many stories on Quebec's newspaper this spring about a commercial war on the Montreal-France routes this summer. Major airlines on this route ( Air Transat, Air Canada, Air France and Corsair ) added many flights both to Paris and other French cities. Everybody wonder how can they fill up so many seats with the present economic situation and the euro-dollar exchange rate. Therefore, there should be some rebate tickets at some point, but also a small risk of cancelled flights with rebooking on different hours or the previous or next day.
For myself, I got a Quebec city-Paris flight for 750 $Canadian on early july, quite a nice price since flights from Quebec are usually more expensive than from Montreal.
Note that Air Transat and Corsair are kind of low cost airlines. Many travel websites won't offer Air Transat. For Corsair, you have to check on "Corsairfly".
Hope this could help some Europeans who could reach Paris easily by train.
To go to New York from Montreal, the best would be by bus, check on Greyhound.
Anyway, I wish you a nice stay in Montréal !
