Cambodia Rolous group of Temples @ Siem Riep
Posted: Fri February 27, 2009 03:05 AM UTC
I will be visiting Siem Riep & Angkor Wat nxt mth, I notice that there is another less well known temple complex 5KM East of Siem Riep (Rolous Group consist of Bakong, Phreah Ko, Loley temples) This group is older than Angkor Wat from my reading.

I was wondering whether this complex required the same day pass similar to Angkor Wat 1 day/ 2-4days passes of US$20 & $40 respectively...I'm thinking of doing only 1 day at Angkor Wat (Us$20 pass) & on the nxt day to Rolous group which I hope to be FREE!!

Yes you will need the same pass to visit the Roluos Group. Check out the map on this link. It will show you all the temples in the area that you will need an Angkor Wat pass to visit. Unfortunately you cannot visit the Roluos Group for free. But if you are buying a multiple day pass you might want to check out the Lingas one day too.

Haizz.. This mean no choice but to pay the expensive entrance fee of US$40 if wanted to detour from Angkor Wat area. Yes Candyby website so far is the best reference. tnx.

I always thought that Rolous group is way out from the Angkor Wat area, so no need those pass...tnx for the info

It might have been free years ago. I visited these temples 3 years ago and there were many tourists, but relatively much less compare to the main circuit. You'll have to go well off the beaten time to see the free temples, but given the amount of land mines still remain in the countryside, it's not recommended.

Notice that there are few more temple complexes that are not part of Angkor park..such as the Southern Phom Krom hill temple & Wat Atwea..wondering whether are they free from the pass?

Definitely Rolous Group are included as part of the Angkor Temples pass. You can get a 1 day pass late in the day to get your pass and see Angkor and maybe Bayon if you are quick then see the other Angkor temples in the morning and visit rolous afternoon the next day. That way you only pay for a 1 day pass.

Boeng Mealea and Phnom Kulen are different passes and cost $20 each (both around 1-1.5 hr drive from Siem reap). All other temples are included in the Angkor pass. 3 day pass for the Angkor temples is $40.

tnx eggboy but how about the Southern group closer to Tongle Sap lake (Phnom Krom?) it's not listed as part of Angkor park as mentioned by Candy publication?

I understand what you mean now. Phnom Krom is on the way to the floating village Chong Kneas. I will confirm with my local friends and let you know. Watch this space :)
