Train to airport Posted: Thu February 26, 2009 01:24 PM UTC
Is there only one trainstation in Porto?if there is moer, does someone know witch one the airport-train uses?(if there is more than one airport, then that witch Ryanair uses).
If you also know where is timetable for those trains. We want to have hotel close to airport-connection,when going back home, because flight is at morning.

Hello,
Connection between the city and the airport is done by subway (www.metrodoporto.pt you can check the timetables). Most of the city centre is connected to the subway. Staying, for instance, close to Av. dos Aliados is a good choice. Not only you are close to the subway (and in the airport line) but also to all the historical centre.

O.k.At Ryanair pages they said that it is train. We will stay at Porto 6 days first(at area you recommented),and then go to Lisbon, but we must come back to Porto for homeflight. We will come late and leave around 7 oīclock. We want to stay as close to connection as possible for that last night.

Just be aware that the first subway departures from Estádio do Dragão are at 6:08/6:10. So if your flight departures at 07AM you won't have time to get there.
If that is the case you can stay until later in Porto centre eating somewhere and then get in the subway and exit in the airport and sleep in a nearby hotel. I would advice the Pedras Rubras Hotel (http://www.hotelpedrasrubras.com/).
Have a nice trip!

I ment we will leave the hotel around 7 oīclock.I will check that hotel you told, and maybe some around it.It wont need to be anything fancy, just a place to sleep. We will have nice apartment at Lisbon, and I think our hotel is o.k. at Porto at those first 6 nights-before going to Lisbon.

Byt the way,I checked, and copied from Ryanair page:
"Porto Airport is located 12 Km from Porto city. A train service to the city of Porto departs from outside the airport terminal. Journey time is approximately 20 minutes. "
Strange that they talk about train,if it is a subway. At some hotel-review someone said something about airport-bus.But it was written some years ago.It said about the hotel we booked, tha it is close to stop of airport-bus.

Hotel you said looked really nice. But they didnīt have breakfast(we will be travelling from 9 in the morning untill 23(11p.m.) by night..We are cheap-travellers,and fly first to London, and"kill time"there for 5 hours before our flight home.Oh sorry-there is different timezone.Compared to Portugal time,we will be at home around 21(9 p.m.-if you use this type of time),so breakfast woul be nice.

No I don't know why Ryanair calls it a train when it is not! The 'trains' actually look like trams. They run at ground level all the way almost into the city centre, then dive underground at the Trindad station then through a tunnel under the city centre via various stops to the Campanha railway station and the Estadio do Dragao - the home of FC Porto.
My computer is also having trouble with the website - the maps and timetables are on a site called http://www.itinerarium.net which is taking forever to load and display answers to selections.
I know that there are several bus routes at the airport but if I recall correctly from my last visit (and when I could get the website to work) they mainly went to places not directly served by Metro ie to the various suburbs and not the actual city centre.
I have at last managed to get the website to come up with this inforamtion!
The 601 and 602 buses runs from the airport to CORDOARIA in the city but take nearly twice as long as the metro. Each bus runs every half hour. The 604 runs from the Hospital S. Joao (north of the city centre)to/from the airport again every half hour.

Thanks to you!We donīt like using subway, thatīs why I asked about buses. But we can also use the sub,if needed-itīs just nicer to be on the ground than underground.Easier to see, where you are.I wouldnīt want to change ,because I would like to have time to eat breakfast at hotel, and if going to airport takes too long,we might need to leave earlier.Itīs a shame, thereīs no buffet-breakfast at that airport-hotel,this time we woul really want one. Those breakfast-menus they have might be much smaller and more expensive.Maybe I need to start checking witch hotels are at direct metro-line from airport.

Re: Train to airport Posted: Sat February 28, 2009 12:43 PM UTC
The only place to change trains on the Metro is at Trindad where the yellow line intersects the other three and the process takes all of one minute. The Alaiados metro station is close to a number of hotels; it's one stop from Trindad on the yellow line.
the other lines share tracks and platforms through the city.
