Brisbane Dress for an Upscale Restaurant
Posted: Wed February 25, 2009 08:46 PM UTC
My wife and I are hoping to be able to dine at the Customs House (or similar if there is a better alternative) during our visit from the US in mid March. I've been trying to find pictures of restaurant patrons so we know what to pack. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Sub tropical Brisbane is pretty laid back re dress code. Smart casual is the norm even for the better eating establishments. No requirement for ties or coats for the gents. You will see diners in suits and ties in the area in which you hope to dine because it is the business end of town & patrons come from work in their "uniforms".
Mid March should be hot weather still and lots of restaurant patrons will be wearing short sleeved shirts.

For the man, casual pants and shirt, no tie.
For the lady, summer dress or 3/4 pants and top, summer type shoes, either heeled or not.Maybe a light cardigan to throw over shoulders:)
As Pedro mentioned it's casual in Queensland.

Brisbane is sub tropical, a very nice place with a casual laid back atmosphere.
Smart casual for men is the go, slacks and shirt with collar, I would avoid polo type shirt. Long or short sleeve, whatever you wish. Ladies should have similar dress.

You will enjoy Brisbane, a nice friendly city I visit frequently.

Good Luck,
Mike
