Malta Blue Grotto at the end of March
Posted: Wed February 25, 2009 05:08 PM UTC
Hi,

we'll be in Malta for a week at the end of March. Since it's still off-season I was wondering whether the boats to the blue grotto will be running and when. And if they do, do they wait 2 hours until they collect enough tourists to fill the boat? And finally how much does it cost?

Thanks.

They do run in the off-season, but at the whim of the weather (and the boatmen). Whether they hang around for the boat to be filled I do not know; it is a very short trip.

If the boats are not running you can get a good view of the Blue Grotto from the road above Wied iz-Zurrieq (there is also a pleasant reasonably-new area there, planted with indigenous flora).

Fare in 2006 was 6.99 euro, so at a guess it will probably be around 8-9 euro this year.

Me and my Mum went to Malta in March and went by bus to the Blue Grotto we went out on the boat without a wait and only 4 people including us got in but by the time we got back the sea was quite choppy and they said no more was going out. There is a few boats and they dont carry many people if the sea is calm no problem. it was cheap it was Lm2.50 each it is bound to have gone up but it wont be expencive.
If you want to ask me anything feel free to email me. Ian.

Thank you very much for your answers. They have been very helpful.
We'll just pick a day that seems nice to go to the grotto and we should be fine.
Thanks again.
