Songthaews (small truck used as a share taxi) service the 50km ring-road that circles Ko Samui and transport passengers from the piers to all the beaches. Fares start at about 20 baht for a short trip. Taxi drivers don't like using their meters so you have to negotiate a price before you leave - much more expensive. A motorbike taxi is another option - cheaper, but you still have to negotiate. Keep in mind there's a lot of serious motorbike accidents on Ko Samui.

We didn't see the songthaews, but found the taxis, or rather, they found us. Actually, we got a nice minivan for the 2 of us, I didn't see any car taxis. It was 400 Baht (a few weeks ago), the guy pointed out the price to us on a sign giving prices to different beaches. I don't know if there are cheaper taxis, but from what I read this is a normal price. We never found any taxis that would use a metre.
