Würzburg Gym Cost
Posted: Tue February 24, 2009 08:27 AM UTC
Hi there,
I am moving to Germany very soon, for two university terms.
Now I was wondering what would the cost of the gym be if I want to sign up for 8months? I'm going to University of Wuerzburg, so I don't mind to go to their gym either.
Also, what is the cost of the protein shakes there? (sorry I am being very specific, its just that I couldn't find the answer to these questions anywhere!)

Hi,
Most universities have a own Sportzentrum.
Here is the website:
http://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/ueber/zentrale_einrichtungen/sportzentrum/hochschulsport/startseite/

The sportcard costs 15€ in the first semester , after that only 10€ per semester. But for the fitness rooms you need another card (I think additionally). This card costs 30€.

And here is the link for their fitness program:
http://www.hochschulsport.uni-wuerzburg.de/sportangebot_vorlesungsfreie_zeit_-_beginn_090209/fitness/

There are two fitness rooms: The Fitness-Studio and the Kraft-/ Cardioraum. There you can train yourself, whenever you like (see opening times).

Hope this helps!
(There might be cheap normal fitness centers, too. Best to find out when you there, I guess. Just walk down the streets and ask in the centers when you spot on. I've never been in one, so I can't even give you a guess, what they charge. But some have students discounts.)

In an average gym you have to expect a monthly fee of 50 Euro plus.

Prices for proteins vary extremely, depending on what exactly you want. Just to give you an idea, have a look at this website which is one of zillions:

http://www.fitness24.de/cgi-bin/mshop.pl?aktion=zeigeProdukt&kategorie=home&ref=google&key=eiweiszpulver

If you want to google more just google for: Eiweißpulver (Eiweisspulver).

Thanks for the replies.
I checked all the websites.
For the gym, I want a weight room gym. That's the only gym I want. I don't actually want like a fitness program such as cardio and such! Any links for that?!

Thanks :)

I cannot speak for Würzburg in particular but the concept of most gyms in Germany (when they are not on a uni campus or a high performance sports stadium) is to offer weight rooms and cardio rooms, either separate or combined, and you choose what and how you use it. As you asked for proteins I can well imagine that you are more interested in the weight rooms ;-))

Even gyms run by bodybuilders have cardio areas and even aerobics rooms because a gym would not be profitable with weightrooms only. Most people who go to gyms nowadays try to lose weight and not bulk up big muscles, just enough muscle to burn more calories when sleeping... ;-)
