Atlanta Georgia aquarium
Posted: Tue February 24, 2009 01:21 AM UTC
I have a 4 hour layover in Atlanta in the next couple weeks. How can I take in the aquarium in the most efficient manner? Do I take a taxi from the airport directly there? How much is the taxi?....and how easy is it to get a taxi back?? Any thoughts appreciated!!! Bill

I think you would be super rushed to try it within 4 hours, especially keeping in mind the time it takes to re-enter the airport through security. A taxi could take you anywhere from 15 - 30 minutes depending on the traffic, so the day and time of your visit are crucial in deciding if it's feasible. I don't know for a certainty the fare but I'm guessing around $20 one way. The MARTA train leave directly from the airport and only costs $2.75 one way but it will take close to 30 minutes to get near the aquarium due to the many stops it makes along the way. To do everything at the aquarium you would need about half a day. Getting a taxi back wouldn't be a problem since there are a few hotels close by, so if you can't flag one down on the street you will find one in front of one of them.

What Dave said....
Something that is probably more feasible and right next to the Aquarium is the world of Coke if that would interest you at all. That takes 2-3 hours to see it all. It could take all day to look at EVERYTHING in it but to do the theaters and such you could manage it in 2 hours which would give you time for transportation.

What day of the week are you going to be in Atlanta? I live next to the airport and enjoy helping out VT'ers when they are in town. I'm generally not occupied on the weekends so would be able to play "taxi". :-)

Now, if you are aware that you won't be able to see the whole aquarium in the time you would have and just want to check out one or two of the exhibits, the aquarium could be a very nice break from the airport for a couple of hours. But you definitely won't be able to take in the whole place in that time.
