New Orleans Travel Forum

We are from Atlanta and came to New Orleans 2 years ago for St. Patty's Day. We all had such a great time that we have decided to come back for the parades. However, this time we would like to experience more of the New Orleans music. We are staying at the Courtyard Marriott (Canal St and St. Charles Ave) and want to go to the Dragon's Den to hear some music, but was told last time to not walk there due to crime. Is this true and are there any other good venues to find zydeco music?

We were in NO just before Christmas 2008 & stayed at Ritz Carlton on Canal St. We walked up & down canal st, around the French Quarter & didn't experience any signs of trouble. From what we were told by the locals was that if you stay to the French Quarter at night you will be OK. There is a place called The Midcity Lanes Rock'N Roll Bowl 4133 S Carrollton Ave which has Zydeco night on Thursdays, It is a bowling alley which has excellent bands, but I would catch a cab.
