Isle of Skye Edinburgh to Isle of Skye
Posted: Sat February 21, 2009 06:41 PM UTC
I'm going on a Scotland tour that starts in Edinburgh and would like to visit the Isle of Skye but it is not part of the tour. If I fly into Edinburgh 2 days prior to the tour would that give me enough time to get up to Skye and back to Edinburgh to meet up with the tour? Does anyone know of any 1 or 2 day Skye tours from Edinburgh? Or even a transportation option? I'm also thinging of flying into Glasgow. Thanks a million in advance!

3-day tour here:

and here:

and here

Anything less than 3 days seems a bit too tight.

You could hire a car (book ahead, especially if you want an automatic) and do an overnight stay on Skye .

http://www.theaa.com/route-planner/index.jsp?database=B

will give you routes, details and estimated timings. Edinburgh > Skye takes 4.5+ hours, from Glasgow about 4 (always allow more time than any map suggests for driving in the UK).

You might also be able to do it by train, with an overnight stop.www.nationalrail.co.uk will give you train times, details and fares.

Where does your tour go? If you can give me a bit more detail, I can plan some options.

I guess your tour is booked but you should ask about "jump on - jump off tours" - http://www.macbackpackers.com/ and others do this as they also provide hostel accommodation (you don't have to stay there) and thus want tourists to stop in the places.

Skye deserves 2 days, at least, if you can.
