San Diego Suggest an affordable place to stay in San Diego

I plan to take my two kids on a week long holiday in San Diego. I’m sure the kids are going to love it’s the long sandy beaches, Sea World, San Diego Zoo, amusement parks and near-perfect weather. Can anyone suggest some good and affordable place to stay in San Diego?

I liked the Old Town Inn, it was easy to get to off the highway and within walking distance of a trolley station and Old Town. The rate included breakfast which I know helps with a family of 4 and I believe they have larger family rooms. I have a review of it on my San Diego page.

Hi Caren,

My answer to your question would depend upon your definition of "good" and "affordable."

I have plenty of hotel suggestions on my San Diego page as well as on pages I've built of places in the San Diego County area. Take a look to see if anything interests you.

In the meantime, I'll suggest, Hotel Circle offers lots of hotels/motels at varying prices and it is centerally located. One other advantage of Hotel Circle is that parking is free and it's connected to the public transportation system if that is how you plan to get around.

If you are on a real budget, Motel 6 or EZ8 or Super-8 motels are "bare-bones" types that are usually much less expensive than even moderate places.

Keep in mind the the price of a hotel/motel also depends upon it's location.

There is a hotel, The Ocean Beach Hotel, just across the street from the Pacific Ocean in Ocean Beach, that might be interesting to you. I'd say the price of a room is moderate rather than high.

Really, without more info from you about your specific expectations it'd be too hard to point you in the direction you want.

i agree with above poster - your good and your affordable could be two double beds 40 minutes from the beach but as along as it's under $120, you'd be happy.
or, maybe you want a pool? i assume you'll have a car. one bedroom or two? kitchen? within walking distance of the beach and or restaurants or are you happy driving everywhere? affordable - what's that mean for you per night remembering that san diego is an expensive city.

Hard question to answer. The further from the ocean the cheaper. Hotel Circle has a large choice of options, but is not close to anything but the Chargers and shopping malls. Good thing is it is at the crossroads to several major highways that will get you to most of the places you want to go fairly quickly.

With kids and for a week you might want to look at a place that offers a breakfast and kitchen. I recently stayed in Carlsbad at the Homewood Suites, which was nice. Also, have stayed at the Residence Inn Carlsbad and the Residence Inn, La Jolla. The HS and RI (La Jolla) both did hot breakfasts, can't recall if the RI Carlsbad did or did not.

Hi Caren

San Diego is a super place to be when you are taking kids along. The world class zoo, animal parks, amusement parks etc are a sheer delight. I can suggest you a budget accommodation - California Suites Hotel located right in the heart of San Diego. This one’s a great option in terms of services, accommodation and rates. And the best part is you can commute easily to all the popular places from here. Check out their web site for more details. And have a wonderful holiday in San Diego.

Cheers!
