Re: Visiting Park in August Posted: Fri February 20, 2009 05:44 AM UTC
It depends very much on whether you want to spend the whole week within the park or be based nearby. Do you want to camp out in the park and do some serious hiking? There are various lodging options ranging from campsites to luxury hotels both within the park and in the surrounding towns. Tour options include coach trips, guided hikes, horse riding, rafting and much more - for an overview try www.yellowstonenationalpark.com
As the previous reply says, the nearest airport is Bozeman - Horizon Air (Alaskair.com) has a daily flight from Seattle. karststage.com provides shuttle services from the airport to West Yellowstone and Big Sky (and also does tours).
I've only visited in the winter and taken a snowbus day tour (which was GREAT!) and so don't know about what is available in August. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
It really does depend on what you want to do.
