I just learned that there is no longer a convoy between Hurghada - Luxor - Hurghada.
However that only applies between 6 am and 6 pm. Does this mean you have to be at the destination before 6 pm? leaving Hurghada approx 12 PM. This means that if you just want to go for a day to Luxor you have to leave again around 12 pm the other day?

Is there any one how knows the exact rules.

tourist buses go all together like big group from a check point in Hurgada to a check point in Luxor. The police does for them "green" road - limits a traffic. This group leaves Hurgada around 6-00 morning and leaves Luxor around 18-00 evening. If you wish to spend night in Luxor - you can return back just in evening of next day

Hi there travelling across the Eastern desert from Hurghada to Luxor and from Luxor to Hurghada can only been done outside the convoy during daylight hours, as if you attempt to travel back outside daylight hours you will be turned back by the police, the reason for this is the road is not that safe and for this reason they have imposed restrictions on tourists travelling, from 6PM in the evening there is still an organised convoy that returns from Luxor and in most cases it is better to join this convoy for the return journey there is a later convoy from Luxor but you will need to check locally for the times, as with travel from Hurghada this is also restricted to daylight hours for the same reasons, for those travelling to Cairo from Hurghada you must still join the convoy at El Gouna just north of Hurghada, returning from Cairo there is no Convoy.
All daylight restrictions have also been lifted from travelling from Luxor to Aswan, but again if you intend to travel in the evening or overnight you will still have to join the convoy for the journey.
The convoy from Aswan to Abu Simbel remains in place and currently there are no plans to ease the restrictions on all other convoy routes including those in Siani.

Tacking onto this question, I am trying to understand the same thing. I am traveling from Luxor to Hurghada. How do you become a part of the convoy? The only transportation options (by bus) I have found are either private companies or public bus system. Do you have to take a private co. to be part of the convoy? Are the public buses safe enough to take during the day?
