Yellowstone National Park Looking for a Yellowstone tour
Posted: Sat February 14, 2009 06:17 PM UTC
Hi all,

This summer I will visit Montana and spend a week on a ranch with a friend. After that I would like to visit Yellowstone, but unfortunately my friend can't join me for that. When browsing through the Yellowstone tips and the forum it seems like most people hire cars and do self-guided tours, but as I will be on my own I would prefer to join an organised tour for a couple of days to see the main attractions of the park and to do some hiking.

Has anyone here been on such a trip, and could recommend a tour company?

Tours like you are speaking of are available through Yellowstone- they used restored touring buses and have several that focus on certain features or areas of the park. We took the "Ring of Fire" tour- I would not reccomend that particular tour, but I would endorse other tours.

The "Ring of Fire" tour was an all day tour, and we backtracked several times. I loved the information, but after too long, it all seemed overwhelming. I would reccomend a half day tour, and they had several of those. The tours leave from many of the resorts and campgrounds, and pick up and let off along the way.

Info should be available from Yellowstone, or possibly Xanterra? I think they have the contract for many of the concessions in Yellowstone. Please let me know if I can help further. I hope you have a great time.

Hello Birgit.

We've always had a car, but I looked at the official US park site for Yellowstone and I did find some photographic tours:
http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/photobus.htm

I did not have a chance to check all links, but perhaps if you click around this site you will find what you're looking for, *or* perhaps there's a Contact link where you can obtains specifics.

Since I live only 50 miles from Yellowstone, we have not taken any of the tours, so I am only a little familiar with tours, but here are some links that you may find helpful.

Inside the park you can take tours run by the park’s concessoner. These are the official park trips, and I have seen them traveling around now and then. They look like they may be pretty good.
For information on these tours visit:

West Yellowstone is a small town just west of the park. They offer various tours in the park. I really do not know anything about these, but check out these links for information:
