Vancouver Trying to organize properly our next trip to BC and AB
Posted: Fri February 13, 2009 02:42 PM UTC
Hello, Does any of you know whether when renting a car in Calgary airport and dropping it in Vancouver airport, i'am charged a drop off fee ? I have read positive and negative answers from various sites, also depending on the way (YCF/YCC or the other way around).

Also, is renting in Canada (for the same type of car)cheaper than renting in Seattle (USA), for the same period of course ?

Thanks
HERBIN

Whenever I want to rent a car, I'll go to different car rental websites (Avis, Budget, Enterprise....) and put in my start and drop off locations. You can play around with this without making a booking to see if there is any difference in price re:drop off at same location vs. drop off at different location.

Also, be careful with the times you're picking for pick up and drop off. Let's say you picked up at 9am Jan.1. If you click to drop off Jan. 3 at noon or later, they could charge you for an extra day.

If you rent a car in Calgary or Vancouver you will pay a drop off fee to drop the vehicle in either Vancouver or Calgary. If you rent a car in the USA the price should be less, but you would also pay a drop off fee to leave the vehicle in Canada. The price is going to depend on whether you are renting for a few days or for a week or more. The car rental companies in most cases will give you a grace period of 30 minutes to an hour to return the vehicle at the contracted time, you should deflinately check this with the rental agency at the time you pick up the car.

Try Alamo car rentals. We picked up a car at Calgry airport, 8 days hire and left it at Banff, covered in mud . No cleaning charge , I think they expect them to be returned in that condition. I thought the charges were cheap. Check their web page, I think it is on my Banff Transport tips.

Good Luck,
Mike
