| Province of Nova Scotia | 6 days in mid May Posted: Fri February 13, 2009 11:14 AM UTC
What would be a good trip for 6 days. I think we would spend the first night in Halifax. The next day drive to Lunenburg but stay in Anapolis Royal. We would like to spend at least three days in Cape Breton. Does this sound reasonable. If so where should we stay in each night. We like to see the local sites, walking, etc.

Assuming you are starting in Halifax, if it were me, I would spend the whole six days getting to Cape Breton, driving and exploring the Cabot Trial, spending a day at Louisbourg and getting back to Halifax.

If you arrive in Halifax, you can leave the following morning, and drive down to Lunenburg for some time exploring. Make a day of it and see both Lunenburg and Mahone Bay. Then, depending what time you have finished seeing all you like, you can cross the province to the valley (some roads are better than others) and stay overnight in one of the really superb bed and breakfasts in the Annapolis Valley. It's the early tourist season, so you should be able to get into Fort Anne (a museum) right in the heart of Annapolis Royal. This is a really unusual little town. You can also see the Port Royal habitation, and the historic gardens. I believe all of this is open in May. Then you may want to drive back towards Halifax (on Highway 101, at New Minas there's a hotel right on the highway). Get up next morning and head to Cape Breton. You'd be there in time to explore a bit before supper, and enjoy the next few days up there. If you contact the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, and ask for a copy of the "Doers and Dreamers" guide, you'll have a huge amount of information to help you plan. Hotels, and approx prices. maps, you name it. it's a great asset when planning a trip here.
