hi, how far is Alexandria El Borg airport from Cairo Pyramid area. I see that we need to take highway #11. How much would a taxi cost one way and how long would it take. The thing is I am trying to see if it is practical (safe- as we would be travelling in the evening)to take a flight out of Alexandria instaed of Cairo as the flights are much cheaper. I want to know if its worth the hassle including the extra taxi fare.

This is very interesting as I have been doing exactly the oposite , also for cost reasons. I travel to Alexandria but found that if I land in Cairo (KLM or Air France) rather than Borg El Arab (Lufthansa) , this saves me over a third of the cost of my ticket, I then take a taxi from Cairo Airport to Alex and same for my return. Your trip from the Pyramids area to Borg el Arab should be about two hours if you are close to the cairo Alex desert Road and should not cost you more that LE 250 - LE 300 .. Egypt is generally very safe but I would recommend using a registered limo company (from the phone book or a word of mouth) rather than just flag down any black and white taxi on the street . thx for the info. I thought my ? was quite outlandish. I guess as Alexandria is priority destination from Europe it works the other way for you. Can you give num of the taxi service you use?

You can hire a taxi and bargain a price from every spot in Cairo.

Make sure that they will take the desert road! There is another one called the green road but it seems to be very unsafe.
