Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Jerusalem What exactly is the Hass Promenade?
Posted: Wed February 11, 2009 08:30 PM UTC
Hello Jerusalem experts,

going to spend a night at the Ramat Rachel Kibbutz hotel, I noticed that on the way to it the map indicates a point of interest called "Hass Promenade". I've tried to look it up here on VT but the search engine is too poor to come up with some results. Could somebody tell more about it? I love long paved promenades going along ridges and letting you have a nice view across cities or valleys such as up on the Budapest castle hill or on a seaside or lakeside.
What is there to see? Is it worth getting out of the car?

already did that with google picture search... led to some enlightenment but still patchy ;) You are right, it's spelled Haas, and I've also found the name "Scherover" wondering whether this is another one or the same

Haas promenade is part of the promenade looking over the old city of Jerusalem from south-east. The other parts are the Schruber and Goldman promenades. They are just named after different people, but they form one long promenade. You have a garden there with viewpoints of the old city to the north-west and glimses of the Judea desert.

You can also see the old city from the other side (north) if you go to the viewpoint on mount Olives.

thanks -- would it be a good place for a late evening stroll watching the city lights go on and take some pictures?

It's a nice place for a stroll. Only, I'm not so sure about taking pictures a nightfall. It's a little further away from the city so it might be difficult to take pictures when the light is dim. You must remember that the old city is not that illuminated at night.

Here is a link from the Jerusalem municipality website. Personally, I enjoy visiting. It is a pretty place to be. Many tour groups will start there when they are touring Jerusalem.

I agree with the person who said--not great night pictures, just too far out!

thanks to you two! We were on Mt. Scopus last year to witness the sunset which was closer and quite spectcacular -- walking around or driving around in the dark was not so good.
