| Tuscany | Tuscany suggestions for teenagers? Posted: Tue February 10, 2009 04:47 AM UTC
Hi. I am a high school student in San Diego, California, USA. I am so excited because I will be traveling to Italy with 20 other students (and teacher chaperones) for a Tuscany Cycling Tour in March. Our teacher has asked us to do research on the internet to find fun and interesting places to visit and eat lunch at, for each day of our cycling tour, so we can learn about the area together before we go. If you have suggestons for us, please share!
Here is our planned cycling schedule: Day 1: Circular ride, 50km starting in Pienza and going through Montepulciano and back to Pienza Day 2: Ride from Pienza to Montalcino Day 3: Ride from Montalcino to Siena Day 4: Rest and explore Siena Day 5: Ride from Siena to Castellina Then we will also spend a few days in Rome We appreciate your recommendations! Ciao! Lauren |

Oh, you are so lucky! You will love Tuscany. I once stayed near Pienza, and it's a beautiful small town that many tourists miss. It has a few very nice restaurants, but they are small so if you need dinner (or lunch) at one of them, it may be good to reserve it ahead of time. I really enjoyed the meal at Latte de Luna.
Sue Stone, right here on VT has a good page about Pienza.. so take a look there. http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/658ac/23ac1/2/ In Siena, you can have a pizza lunch right on the famous square.

Hi Lauren... i really envy you, too!
On the way back from (or to) Montepulciano, do not miss to go along the SP68 road (look here: http://www.viamichelin.it/viamichelin/ita/dyn/cont A little uphill (sorry) but worth every effort you will do, with one of the most scenic roads of the Tuscany(google image search for it, and you will understand) Also, while in Pienza, do not miss to visit the old romanic "pieve" (church). Just 1 km downhill, but i know people who lost it... Ciao Francesco

When you go to Rome it's lovely to hang out in Campo de' Fiori where they sell all the flowers and fruit in the mornings.
It's not as touristy as Piazza Navona and it's just round the corner, there are nice pastry shops and Deli's there too. Madeleine

Hi Lauren, that's a great chance to join such a trip. Have fun!
Have a closer look at the page you have already found - VirtualTourist. It's not only the forums. You will see that many members have built their own pages here with tips, photos and information about places that they have visited or where they live. If you enter the name of a location in the "destination" search (top right corner of this page) you will be taken to a "travel guide" page which has links to all member pages that have ever been written about the resp. location and to all the tips about this place sorted by category. Check that out, you will for sure find a lot. Some of these member pages are goldmines of information.
