When will you be there and what are some things you enjoy doing?

Cafe sitting is always good and there is the Promenade des Anglais for walking, enjoying the sea and people watching.

If you'll give us some interests, we can be more help. You might also consider typing Nice into the VT Search Window above and checking the Tips all the VT members have listed. Things To Do would be your category . . . or perhaps Nightlife. You might also want to check the Top 5 VT member pages on Nice (available on your initial search).

There are cinemas and a bowling alley but that's not really why you go to the Riviera is it? You could stay home and do that. The major event of most evenings for visitors is eating out, and then a promenade and some people watching. Then retire to plan the next day.

You could always experiment with drinking. Its quite fun really.

Although it's been a while since I was there I remember some nightclubs amongst the back-streets of the old town - not my scene so I didn't go into any of them.
Otherwise, apart from strolling along the promenade or walking up to the chateau gardens (see my Nice pages) it's really all about people-watching while enjoying a leisurely dinner.
You could walk to the Russian Church but I am not sure about gaining entry especially in the evenings.
If you are feeling fit, you could take roller skates or blades - they race up and down the promenade any time the weather is good! There are also cycle lanes there so maybe you can hire bicycles?

One other suggestion: When you get to your hotel, check the pamphlets at the desk. They usually have dozens of pamphlets of things to do in the area. We've found some fun things this way. Also, ask the hotel staff and also the wait staff where you are eating. We've gotten great suggestions from both.

As far as whether or not you can go bowling or to a movie at home, well, yes you can. However, in Nice you will be doing it with French people so it will be very different from home and it might be fun to compare experiences. The movie will be in French which might be something to consider if you don't speak the language. Bowling can be done in any language. 8^)

The movie will be in French not really Beausoleil. We do have every showing movies in VO, version originale, the original language, the movie cinema in Nice has them too.

In fact in our TV, i have the choice to see movies in their original languages, something not available in the US ::)

Where I live we get movies in Spanish, Chinese and French. Different cities with different ethnic groups get various foreign language movies. On the whole you are right, our movies are generally in English except for the art theaters.

On tv we can get movies in any language we are willing to pay for. You have to subscribe to foreign language cable or satellite but it's pretty reasonable. I've been in plenty of hotel rooms in France that only had French channels so obviously you have to pay extra for these languages too. 8^)

I saw "The Gods Must Be Crazy" (many years ago) three times in French before I saw it in English. I quickly discovered I missed most of the jokes like a microbiologist working on an elephant . . . LOL (I had no idea what the French was for microbiologist!)

We watch all the Freeview TV channels in France and I keep noticing the mass of familiar American and British crime series on night after night all dubbed into French. Except, inexplicably, "CSI Miami" (the one in which every actor is aged 26, except for the ginger one) Goes out on prime time in pure English on one of the main French channels.

Watch local TV. It improves your language skill no end.

I have satellite tv in my house, can watch so many channels cant count them in many languages. The main tv are in French but if the movie or show its foreign, you can just switch it to that language automatically, no need to pay extra. So as we are a multilanguage family, we get to practice all our english, spanish and portuguese ::), and of course the native French from my wife.

Nicelife, if you watch TV Breitz, its the Breton tv channel here in France, all the programming is anglos shows dubbed into French. and they are a bit old ::) like perry mason, murder she wrote, dragnet, miami vice etc etc.

The ones you can switch language are the new ones or the movies in any channel anywhere, i have the ease to do so from my remote.

If it's free, why don't all the hotels have it? It would be lovely on stormy days.
