Saint Lucia St Lucia In March things to do for Single Traveller
Posted: Mon February 9, 2009 10:19 PM UTC
Hey

Travelling to St Lucia in March to visit Family. They will be working so will be mainly on my own. Firstly landing at Hewanorra and have to get to Rodney Bay. The taxi fares quoted seem to be expensive ranging up to $90usd. Are there any buses up to Rodney bay

Also during the day what is there to do for a bloke who does not want to be surrounded by honeymooners etc. Have checked out the diving and day trips but what interesting things are there to do?

We got a taxi , I think its your only option unless you rent a car.
There are so many day trips to do in St Lucia...it's one of the best islands in the Caribbean if you like to explore. We rented a jeep and equipped with some brochures and maps explored on our own . There are both hot and cold waterfalls!
The area around Soufrière has much to see. The Sulpher Springs from which the town of Soufrière got its name are a weak spot in the crust of a collapsed crater, the result of a volcanic eruption some 40,000 years ago. There is a seven-acre crater which is described as the world's only drive-in volcano..

The locals have these " jump ups" which are really street parties..lots of crazy music , cheap food and drinks. We went a couple of times to the one on Friday nights in Castries.
Have fun

Thanks for the suggestions

Can you let me know how much you paid for your taxi and did you reserve it beforehand or get an official one when you landed

Hi
We paid $60.00 . There are lots of taxis ( vans) outside the airport , you don't need to book ahead.

Just a quick comment, probably after you are already there, but did you consider flying into Castries. Don't know where you're flying from, but we flew from Dulles straignt to San Juan, Puerta Rica and took the American Eagle (twin prop. plane) over to Castries. Approximately a six hour total flight. The pilot even flew a circle around the island before landing. Great views. If you've never been there, you can take a look at the photos (Nov.,2004)I've uploaded to www.webshots.com. Here's a link to these photos ...... http://travel.webshots.com/album/305299445lOnEyj
